What changed

  • NEWNew content

New map, character, weapon and items

Megabonk adds a new map, character and weapon, along with new items, enemies, bosses, achievements and challenges.

New Map. New Character. New Weapon. New Items. New Enemies and Bosses. New Achievements and challenges

    • New Map
    • New Character
    • New Weapon
    • New Items
    • New Enemies and Bosses
    • New Achievements and challenges

TipThe Spooky Update added a map, a character, a weapon, items, enemies and bosses in one go, and the developer's post lists them without naming any of them. There is nothing more to read here: load the game and check the map select and your unlock list, because this is the single biggest content gap between a launch-era player and the current game.

  • BUFFAmog

Amog Passive now increases in radius every level

Amog's passive radius now grows every level instead of staying fixed, and each level also adds poison damage.

Amog Passive now increases in radius every level, from 4 to 12 over 220 levels.

    • Amog Passive now increases in radius every level, from 4 to 12 over 220 levels. Previously it was always 4. Also gain 1% Posion Damage per level.

TipAmog's radius used to be fixed for the whole run and now grows as you level, tripling by the end. He is a late-run character now, so do not judge him on the first few stages.

  • BUFFDragon's Breath

Dragon's Breath now has 200% faster rotation speed

Dragon's Breath rotates much faster and aims at enemies by itself instead of following where you face, and it also deals more damage, lasts longer and gets bigger damage upgrades.

Dragon's Breath now has 200% faster rotation speed, and automatically targets enemies instead of following the player rotation.

    • Dragon's Breath now has 200% faster rotation speed, and automatically targets enemies instead of following the player rotation. Damage buff 15 -> 16, duration buff 1s -> 1.5s and damage upgrade offer also buffed 3 -> 4

TipDragon's Breath now aims at enemies instead of following where you are facing, which is the change that matters: it stopped being a weapon you had to steer and started being one you can ignore.

  • CHANGEMultiple items

To address some of the flying meta: Final swarm ghosts

After 20 minutes, Final Swarm ghosts speed up and enemies slowly lose their stun and freeze allowance until crowd control stops working on them, so the flying strategy is harder to rely on.

To address some of the flying meta: Final swarm ghosts will start increasing their speed after 20 minutes have passed.

    • To address some of the flying meta: Final swarm ghosts will start increasing their speed after 20 minutes have passed. Also, normally, an enemy can only be stunned or frozen 15 times (CC cap) before it becomes immune.
    • After this update, starting at 20 minutes, the CC cap will slowly decrease until they can no longer be stunned or frozen.

TipFlying and freezing stop being a safe stall once the run gets long. Aim to close it out rather than planning to outlast the swarm.

  • CHANGESystem

Made a lot of improvements to FPS late-game

  • FIXGiant Fork

Fixed: Giant Fork's Megacrit didn't work

Fixed a bug where Giant Fork's Megacrit didn't work

TipIf you wrote Giant Fork off before, you judged it with its Megacrit doing nothing. Give it another run before deciding where it sits.

  • FIXSystem

Fixed: you could buy items you didnt have unlocked

Fixed a bug where you could buy items you didnt have unlocked

TipIf a piece you remember using stops appearing as a purchase, read it as an unlock you have not earned rather than bad luck. Go and earn that unlock instead of hunting the shop for it.

  • FIXHoly Book

Fixed: Holy Book was not affected by Particle Opacity

Holy Book's effects now follow the Particle Opacity setting.

Fixed a bug where Holy Book was not affected by Particle Opacity

TipIf you run a low Particle Opacity setting, Holy Book was the effect ignoring it. Its visuals now follow that setting like everything else, so tune them there rather than expecting the look you remember.

  • FIXSystem

Fixed: you could just use the full map on the Blind Challenge

The Blind Challenge no longer lets you open the full map.

Fixed a "bug" where you could just use the full map on the Blind Challenge

TipThe Blind Challenge really does take the full map away now. Learn a map's layout on an ordinary run first, because the challenge will not hand it to you.

  • FIXSystem

Fixed: you could reset as you teleported to the next stage

Fixed a bug where you could reset as you teleported to the next stage to keep your progress and not move to the next stage

TipThe reset-during-teleport trick that kept your progress without advancing is closed. Take what you want from a stage before you step into the teleport, because it will move you now.

  • NEWSystem

New Game Setting: Skip Chest Animation -> Skips the chest animation

A new setting skips the chest animation, but with it on you cannot banish items from chests.

New Game Setting: Skip Chest Animation -> Skips the chest animation.

    • New Game Setting: Skip Chest Animation -> Skips the chest animation. Note: You won't be able to banish items from chests if you use this setting.

TipLeave this off on a serious run: with the chest animation skipped you cannot banish items from chests, so you trade a build filter away for a few saved seconds.

  • NEWSilver Pots

New Game Setting: Enable Silver Pots -> Enable / Disable

A new setting lets you turn silver pots on or off, though turning them off hurts the Ghost Item.

New Game Setting: Enable Silver Pots -> Enable / Disable silver pots (Ghost Item in shambles if you do this)

TipThis one is a build decision rather than a display option: check whether Ghost is part of your plan before you touch it, and leave it enabled if it is.

  • FIXBalancing

Tried to fix the "caveman" bug / exploit

Hiding in caves should no longer stop enemies from spawning near you or reaching you, which closes the caveman exploit.

Tried to fix the "caveman" bug / exploit where you could hide in caves and enemies wouldn't be able to spawn close to you or reach you

TipThe developer says he tried to fix cave hiding, not that he did. Treat it as unreliable rather than gone and build to fight the swarm instead.

  • BUFFDicehead

Increased Diceheads passive minimum reward potential (0.02 -> 0.04)

Dicehead's passive has a higher minimum reward, so late level-up rewards are about twice as high.

Increased Diceheads passive minimum reward potential (0.02 -> 0.04).

    • Increased Diceheads passive minimum reward potential (0.02 -> 0.04). Basically his late level up rewards will be twice as high, surely won't be OP

TipDicehead's floor for level-up rewards doubled, so his worst rolls hurt far less. He got noticeably more consistent rather than more powerful at the top end.

  • CHANGEChunkers

Chunkers now start with one more projectile

Chunkers start with one more projectile, so the weapon fires more shots right from the moment you get it.

  • BUFFCalcium

Calcium's passive has been changed slightly

Calcium loses much less momentum when taking damage, and that loss gets smaller as Calcium levels up.

Calcium's passive has been changed slightly.

    • Calcium's passive has been changed slightly.
    • Instead of losing half of his momentum upon taking damage, he now looses about 25%, which decreases the higher you level up. At level 110 (max) you lose about 6.6%

TipCalcium keeps far more of his momentum when hit, and keeps more of it the higher he levels. Getting clipped used to end a speed build; now it barely dents it.

  • BUFFPoison Flask

Poison Flask starting projectile speed increased 12 -> 16

Poison Flask projectiles travel faster from the start, so they reach enemies sooner.

TipPoison Flask projectiles fly noticeably faster, which mostly fixes the old problem of them landing behind a moving swarm.

  • NERFNoelle

Noelle passive gives less size per level: 1% -> 0.75%

Noelle's passive is weaker, giving less size per level and less damage for each frozen enemy.

Noelle passive gives less size per level: 1% -> 0.75%, and the damage she gains per frozen enemy has also been reduced a bit: 2% -> 1.5%

TipNoelle lost size per level and damage per frozen enemy in the same patch. She still scales with freezing crowds, just less steeply than the version you remember.

  • NERFFinal Swarm

Max Silver Multiplier in Final Swarm has changed from 16x -> 8x

Final Swarm's maximum silver multiplier is cut in half, so you earn less silver from it.

Max Silver Multiplier in Final Swarm has changed from 16x -> 8x.

    • Max Silver Multiplier in Final Swarm has changed from 16x -> 8x. People seem to have way too much silver, so it doesn't make sense to have such a high multiplier anyway. At some point it would be nice to create some features that use silver, but im not sure what that would be yet

TipThe silver multiplier ceiling in the Final Swarm was halved. Long farming runs pay out much less than they used to, which is the main reason old silver totals look unreachable now.

Fixed: Frost Walker reset opacity when changing attack speed

Frost Walker's opacity no longer resets when your attack speed changes.

A new Shrine Counter setting shows how many of each shrine are available and how many you have used.

New Game Setting: Shrine Counter -> Shows you how many of each shrine is available, and how many you have used

TipTurn it on if you build around a particular shrine: whether hunting the rest of the map is worth the detour depends on whether that shrine is spent or simply not found yet.

  • NERFCursed Grabbies

Cursed grabbies now has a proc per tick limit of 250

Cursed Grabbies now has a limit on how many times it can proc per tick, which helps frame rate but is a slight nerf in very late game.

Cursed grabbies now has a proc per tick limit of 250.

    • Cursed grabbies now has a proc per tick limit of 250. Similar items (Spicy Meatball, Ice Cube, etc) already have a limit like this (at 50). It's to improve FPS, but it is probably a slight nerf to Cursed Grabbies if you're veeeryy late game.

TipOnly very deep runs feel this. If you regularly push that far, line up a second damage source for the point where Grabbies stops scaling.
